First off, I know that NS Pro doesn't control the smtp host. I had that working for a while.

But today when I sent out my first mass email (750+ subscribers), it sent the email to the first 20 or so people and then returned this error: "SMTP Error! Could not connect to SMTP host."

I can understand why it would do this all the time, but it did it after I had sent several rounds of testing emails to 4 addresses each time. I have a tester list for that. So after I sent the email to the main mailing list, it gives me this error after 20 emails have been sent.

I've gone back over the past couple hours to retry and I keep getting the same error message. I've also removed addresses that it was stalling on, thinking that it might have something to do with it. But it didn't.

I'm using Goggle Apps standard edition for mail hosting. It has a 500/day email limit, but I wasn't any where near that.

Any reason why NS Pro could cause this? I'm certainly not sure that it did, but just curious what you thought.

Thanks for your help, and I really like NS Pro, esp if this can be worked out.

Hello.

Thank you for your purchase.

Well it sounds strange. The SMTP connection is not really handled by NS Pro, because it uses the Joomla! Mail Settings.

Can you send anything at all now? I suggest you try on the Toolkit, sending using tool #3 to yourself or to me (mavrosxristoforos@gmail.com) .

Thanks again

I tried it again after I read your post (I've also tried to send the messages out this morning also, to no avail) and I was able to send myself the newsletter to my email address according to your advice to use toolkit item 3. The address I sent it to was an @gmail.com address, where the account I'm using to send the newsletters from is an @believerbands.com address but it is hosted by google.

So after I successfully sent the newsletter to myself with NS Pro, I tried to send the newsletter again to my mailing list with NS Prp, using the same newsletter that I created yesterday (ID 4). It actually started working again but stopped around 20 or so again. I am not getting an error message this time, but the progress bar has stopped progressing, so I'm assuming that it has stopped sending emails.

I've looked into some Google mail policies and they have an outgoing mail filter for spam. It seems that there are certain things that can set this off and my newsletter appears to meet some of that criteria. Not that the letter itself contains "spammy" content but that its just a mass email.

Does NS Pro send each email individually or in groups with several BCC's or something similar? That seems to be the big no-no with google mail.

Anyway, for now I'm blaming Google and not NS Pro. NS Pro seems to do it's job until Gmail stops it. Any advice would be very welcome. Otherwise my options are to change the way my site does email (go to a new provider) or use a 3rd party system like Constant Contact to manage our email lists.

Thanks for your help,

Jordan

Sorry, just noticed one other thing. I looked into the inbox of the account that is sending the emails. All of those messages that I thought had sent this afternoon were there with delivery failure notices. Looks like Google is failing hard on me.

A question that I believe will clarfiy some things:
Have you set the Email Per Send value?

This is a field used in emails to liimit sends each time you click send. It won't send more than those emails per send, unless you click send again.

If you have set such a thing, make it 500 or so, and you will send your allowed emails.

Now, if Google is restraining you in some way, you can also try to set the Delay between Newsletters, found in the parameters.

Thank you again
