Hi Christopher -- I just bought RapidContact because it said it was Joomfish compatible. I have installed the component and the module and built a quick form which works fine. I'm trying to figure out how to get Joomfish to translate the field names (Name, Telephone and Message). I can translate the Submit button and the thank you and errror messages in Joomfish, but I can't find the actual form fields. What am I missing?

Here's a link to the module on the page: http://babysignstokyo.jp/index.php/ja/contact

Hello.

Thank you.

As I mentioned in my mail, too, RCX is compatible with Joomfish by using the ini language files.

Would you like additional help on how to translate using an ini file?

Hello.

Thank you for using Rapid Contact Ex, and for turning it into such a nice form. Do you mind if I grab a screenshot to use in a portfolio if one is made ever? Including your link ofcourse.

Now, onto the problem:

To translate your fields, you need to use the language ini files.

Do you know about these files?

Surely, feel free to include it in your portfolio :)

I am relatively new to the whole Joomla thing, so I could use some instructions with regards to the language ini files?

Thank you.

Well, the language ini files are translation files, found in the language directory of your site.

The common format of the name of this file is

(for language code en-GB:)

en-GB.extension_name.ini

In our case:

en-GB.com_rapidcontactex.ini

In this file, you should see some strings, with their translations.

The correct format of such a file is:

A TRANSLATION STRING IN CAPITAL=The string you want to appear.

To translate a field's label, you write it in capitals, and then its translation. For example, for field with label "Name:", you should write:

NAME:=Name:

If you need additional information, please do not hesitate to ask again!

I understand now how it works, I should just create "ru-RU.com_rapidcontactex.ini" in the folder 'language\ru-RU\' and translate all the low cap text :-)

However this will only translate the following text:
=Wrong anti-spam answer
=Please write a valid email
=Please write a valid postal code
=Please write a valid telephone number
=is required
=Invalid File Type
=Error Uploading File
=You received a message from
=No recipient specified

How can I translate my contact form:
- Company name
- Company address
- Company website
- Description of address
- etc..

The language file works for the form labels, too.

COMPANY NAME=Company Name

YOUR LABEL=Your label

Thank you again.

Unfortunately I still can't get it working..

I took the "en-GB.com_rapidcontactex.ini" and renamed it into "ru-RU.com_rapidcontactex.ini". And added "COMPANY NAME=Имя Сомпани"
WRONG ANTI-SPAM ANSWER=Wrong anti-spam answer
FIELD=Field
PLEASE WRITE A VALID EMAIL=Please write a valid email
PLEASE WRITE A VALID POSTAL CODE=Please write a valid postal code
PLEASE WRITE A VALID TELEPHONE NUMBER=Please write a valid telephone number
IS REQUIRED=is required
INVALID FILE TYPE=Invalid File Type
ERROR UPLOADING FILE=Error Uploading File
YOU RECEIVED A MESSAGE FROM=You received a message from
NO RECIPIENT SPECIFIED=No recipient specified
COMPANY NAME=Имя Сомпани
This didn't work.. leaving the orignal filename intact also didn't change anything. Did I misunderstand you?

If you change the text in the language/en-GB/en-GB.com_rapidcontactex.ini file does it change?

If it does, then this means the translation works, but the Russian language is not active.

Thank you again

Hi Christopher,

I have the same problem as mentioned above. I probably do something wrong. I put in the translation of the fields but nothing happens. Also when i change some existing like FIELDS=fiel (minus ds) it does not change. I saved the file as nl-NL.com_rapidcontactex.ini as well as en-GB.com_rapidcontactex.ini but nothing changes.

Here is the text inside the .ini

WRONG ANTI-SPAM ANSWER=Wrong anti-spam answer
FIELD=Field
PLEASE WRITE A VALID EMAIL=Please write a valid email
PLEASE WRITE A VALID POSTAL CODE=Please write a valid postal code
PLEASE WRITE A VALID TELEPHONE NUMBER=Please write a valid telephone number
IS REQUIRED=is required
INVALID FILE TYPE=Invalid File Type
ERROR UPLOADING FILE=Error Uploading File
YOU RECEIVED A MESSAGE FROM=You received a message from
NO RECIPIENT SPECIFIED=No recipient specified
UW-EMAIL:=Your e-mail:
BEDRIJFSNAAM:=Company Name:
UW NAAM:=Your Name:
DHR/MVR=mr/mrs
ONDERWERP:=Subject:
BERICHT:=Message:

Regards

Hello Peter.
Thank you for posting here.

I need to ask: The file is saved as UTF-8 right?

Peter, thank you for sending me the url and the file.

I wouldn't result in something without having both.

The problem is that you need to add the translations in the module's ini file, rather than the component's.

For example, you should have en-GB.mod_rapid_contact_ex.ini and write the field names there.

That should fix it.

Thank you again!

Christopher, thanks that was the solution. I also had to make a nl-NL.mod_rapid_contact_ex.ini

Thanks for the great support.

Hi, thanks to the great support on this page I've managed to translate fields and labels for Joomfish using the ini translation files, but I can't see a way to do the same with values in a dropdown menu. This would be very useful for my site. Is this possible? Thanks!

Hello.

Thank you for posting here.

Is it a joomla module dropdown menu or is it custom code in the template?

To make something translatable using the ini files in joomla you should call it with the _ function in the JText class.

That should be done with PHP.

See example:

PHP File, Joomla 1.5:

<?php print JText::_('Text to translate'); ?>

Ini File, Joomla 1.5:

TEXT TO TRANSLATE=Text to translate

PHP File, Joomla 1.6+

<?php print JText::_('TEXT_TO_TRANSLATE'); ?>

Ini File, Joomla 1.6+

TEXT_TO_TRANSLATE=Text to translate

Thank you again.

Hi, and thanks for your quick reply. I don't think I explained myself very well because I'm not sure how to answer your question, "Is it a joomla module dropdown menu or is it custom code in the template?" I guess it's the former.

What I meant originally is that, using your Rapid Contact Ex component I created a field of type "Dropdown List," in a form, and wrote some comma-separated values in English to populate this list. I'd like these values to be translated into Japanese when a visitor uses the language switcher. Changing/adding to the ini file works with the fields and labels, but it seems like having a translatable dropdown menu is more difficult? Cheers, Ross.

Sorry, I obviously didn't understand that.

Please send me a message at mavrosxristoforos@gmail.com so that I can send you a fix for that - because it is something that I didn't think of when I included that feature.

Thanks again.
